Ron - Some Warm January Riding Days!

Loose Talk with Jon

The Little Weather Quickie for the Greater Charlotte Area

for Week of January 20-27 2015

Wednesday 63 clear, Thursday 55 p-cloudy, Friday 46 rain, Saturday 53 chance of rain, Sunday 55 clear, Monday 46 snow, Tuesday 49 p-cloudy (as per www.intellicast.com on 1/20/15)

I was born in an ice storm and Jon was born in the snow. We're January babies with birthdays coming up quickly and, as usual, the weather reflects what it was like the day we first arrived! This Friday for Jon's day, they're calling for rain with the possibly of some ice. Monday's forecast is for snow on my day. So while Ron's column today talks about the great riding days we have this week, it's looking like Mother Nature's gonna show off her Winter stuff again. So get out and enjoy a ride or two ... quick!

But ride or not, I'm reminding you to get your biker butt to the Charlotte Convention Center this Saturday and help us celebrate us all being motorcycle riders ... as well as our birthdays! Are you a January baby too? Come by The BIG RIDE 2 and tell me or Jon and we'll give you a little TCR birthday gift!

This week he's shouting about being warm enough to throw off the layers, but last week Ron reported on his thoughts about Cold Weather Riding. We've received some responses to the call below and we'll be publishing all emails next week. You got anything to add? Write me (and don't forget to include your mailing address so I can mail you your TCR Tuff!)

It's always a delight to hear from Sandy .. because I know we're going to be seeing some interesting sights thanks to the camera that goes with her on every ride. And so I'm especially thrilled to hear she's got lots more wandering adventures in her plans for the new year .. and we'll surely benefit with the scenes she shares.

Sure ... there's a lot of other cool things happening at The Charlotte Convention Center but The BIG RIDE 2 will be where the fun is!

Unless the weather turns really ugly (and there's rain but no icy stuff called for at this moment,) we should all be able to tell Sandy "thank you" when she comes to Easyriders this Saturday. I hear that Bub and Shaggy and Ron will be there. Quece's gonna appear with her mom and dad, Jane and Greg. Paul will be there to shoot some photos and Mike's traveling here from The Sandhills for an appearance. Lester and Danny say they're coming and I even heard this week from Brother Bear Tommy who says he'll try to come. Sounds like a full bus and a great party so don't miss it.....

I'm on Facebook ... "friend me!"

Ok…so the year 2014 was interesting for me, my family, and friends.  Looking back for a moment, the hard times can only make us stronger and make us strive for much better opportunities in life.  Unlike some, we only have one life to live and make the best of each day as it comes.  With this thought in mind, are you ready to ride and discover new places? I am!

As you have probably seen from previous articles, I love photography especially old abandoned and forgotten places off the beaten path.  The rides to find these places are always adventures.  I normally try to research my photo options and the roads to get there.  Travelling by motorcycle alone on back roads, it is not real wise to leave home without an itinerary.  I have saved several connections through Facebook for photography opportunities.  If the photographer gives enough clues as to the location of their photo, I can usually find it.  One recent photo of an old plantation in Georgia will be on my list of places to see this year.

My husband came home and told me of a conversation with a co-worker pertaining to concrete arrows historical landmarks across the US.  He asked me if I had ever heard of them.  ??  After googling the landmarks and locating more within the states of NC and SC, I have another bucket list trip planned! Also on the calendar my motorcycle travelling companion, Debbie, and I will be re-planning our cancelled coastal trip from last year.  Due to a family emergency and the weather questionable, we decided to cancel the trip and hope to reschedule the trip for this year.

So…first trip on the books will be to the Easyriders Motorcycle Show in Charlotte!  By motorcycle or cage, I’ll have to wait for Mother Nature to decide my ride choice.

For now, I would like to share a few of my photos from places explored from the motorcycle seat!  Another riding companion Sarah-Anne and I took a ride after the Christmas holidays.  All bundled and snug in winter gear!  Please feel free to contact me for locations of these photos as they are all worthwhile for riding plans!

Always remember, it’s not about the destination…it’s all about the journey!  Enjoy exploring!
Looking forward to the season!  Stay well my friends!

It's a Warm Riding Week!

I’ve been waiting for this day.  It did start out a little cool at 39, (yes that is 1 degree below my 40 degree minimum,) but the sun was shining and a promise of being around 70 by this afternoon when I go home.  My I won’t know what to do without those big gloves and the extra coat, and I may not need my scarf!

(My Marcia's smiling now that the sun's out and shining on our ride!)

See you at Easyriders This Saturday!

The weather for this weekend is also great.  It would be  great to see you at the Easyriders in Charlotte this weekend.  It was cold last year, and we had to stand outside while some kind of smoke detector or fire alarm was going off.  But not this year.  I must admit I had a tough assignment last year and wasn’t sure about coming.  I was with one of the calendar models.  I’m guessing that because she was the same height – 6’3” or so we got paired together.  But what a nice lady and so accommodating to everyone to take a picture and sign her picture in The Litigator calendar.

(Editor's Note: This year, The Litigator will be giving out his calendars at his newly-restored cool vintage bus so you'll want to check it out as well as The Carolina Rider's BIG RIDE 2 - The Phoenix!)

Drop by The BIG RIDE 2 and visit with us all. I and some of the other writers and contributors will be hanging out at the bus awhile; and hopefully this year we're hoping no flu so you can even have a word with Jon and Jan, aka Footloose and FancyFree!

I did see a few brave souls last year riding and I expect even more this year.  You’ll see some great bikes, meet some wonderful people and have a great time.  I’m looking forward to Jon’s drone flying around taking pictures from above (if they will let him), and to see the new “ BIG RIDE” parked in the Convention Center.

Easyriders Show

"I'm so excited, I just can't hide it" (The Pointer Sisters)

The unofficial "winter is almost gone, spring is not far away" Easyriders Show is here. Come join us at the brand new "BIG RIDE 2" Bus. As usual we will be giving away kool stuff and hanging with old friends and making new ones.

Speaking of old friends, be sure and wear your Carolina Rider shirt for a free drink!! Because you know, those shirts are collectibles now that the bulk of them burned up!

Anyway, ... come see us between 10am and 7pm. We will be looking for you!!
