Daydreamin' of a

Spontaneous Escape Ride

I spent the weekend indoors. Expect you did too. Even if I hadn't been part of the weekend's Easyriders show, I'm pretty sure I'd wouldn't have heard the call of the great outdoors in its drippy greyness.

Nevertheless, today I'm daydreaming about being on my bike. Can't help it. I was immersed in bikes and bikers Saturday and Sunday, for heaven's sake! Plus, it's honestly been weeks since I have been on my beloved purple Yamaha V-Star. I really can't complain about the weather. It's January and it's been the mildest Winter I can remember in a long time. Just feelin the need for some time in my riding boots! Mmmm... a sunny roll through The Keys, a ride around The Loop in Daytona, meandering York County byways, a spontaneous escape ride of delight!

John V of Dragonfly Video popped by The Carolina Rider Big Ride this weekend while we were parked at the show and came inside for a chat. About 15 minutes into our visit and quite suddenly, as in a lightbulb-of-inspiration-moment, he jumped to his feet and declared, "you guys gotta excuse me. There's iron out there calling me! Weekends are usually when I turn my happy switch - that's what I call it when I fire up my bike. Man, oh man, that's when I'm free. That's when I can't stop smiling. This weekend, my happy switch has gotta be this show and I've gotta get out there and enjoy these bikes. Great talking with ya, see ya!"

Understood, John. Totally understood!

What's The Easyriders Show all About?

This show is all about YOU ... bikers who love to ride! There was a lot to see and do at the 2012 Easyriders Bike Show at the Charlotte Convention Center this weekend.

For my husband, Greg, and I, first stop was The Carolina Rider "Big Ride" bus. Trudy and the other Carolina Rider Beauties were dressed (or partially dressed depending on how you look at it) for the occasion, greeting, having their photo taken with friends, getting emails, and signing folks up for a chance to win prizes. Thanks to all of you that have submitted your emails to receive The Carolina Rider weekly e-magazine. Did you know we email to over 30,000 of you who want to know where to go for the next ride or party every week - and that doesn't include the over 1.85 million web hits we are getting monthly! Our advertisers are the best and you make it all possible! Greg got a couple of pictures of the inside of The Big Ride ... amazing work that Jon has done! Look for it at bike events and make sure to stop by and say Hello.

As we left the bus, the first thing we saw were The Purrfect Angelz - unbelievable talent! These ladies are acrobats, dancers, and sexy! One took a tumble off of the stage, but jumped right back up and kept the show going ... Amazing! (I am sure there were a lot of men that would have been more than happy to help her out.) When the Purrfect Angelz weren't on stage, they were out among the crowd wearing their boy-cut bikinis, chaps, and heels ... they definitely turned some heads.

We got to the show early enough to purchase our Full Throttle Saloon T-shirt, and stand in line for Michael Ballard and Angie. Not many bikers to battle before 12 noon (we only waited 30 minutes & that was the shortest line for the day.) I was impressed with our opportunity to meet Mike and Angie. They took the time for introductions, signed our T-shirt, talked a little about the activities on the show that is airing now, even mentioned "Mama" in our conversation, and we had some photos taken. We watched them treat everyone with the same respect all day. Things I noted: they did not sit behind a desk, they were on their feet the entire time, they hugged, shook hands, and greeted everyone as if they were long time friends. This is unbelievable when you saw this every time you walked by for over 6 hours!! I can't wait to see them again at the Sturgis Bike Rally this year!

Lots of booths and displays. Attorneys from all parts of the Carolinas including, of course, our good friend and TCR Sponsor, Jason Taylor, The Litigator. There was also Christian Bike Groups and the CBA, biker accessories like BLING tops and belts, leather bikinis, decorated zipper pulleys, Leather vests, jackets and chaps, and every possible design of embroidered patches. Then BLING for your bike like LED lighting, lots of chrome, special seating, bags, pin striping, windshields, and great discount buys on all the little "extras" we love that make our bikes personal. Tough deciding what to purchase. There were a lot of good ideas and things that are out on the market today that make biker life easier and more fun. Vendors from as far away as California to our backyards of Huntersville, NC. I look forward to writing about these bike vendors and accessories in detail over the bike season ahead for you!

The "Bike Custom" Booths offered their skills and showed off the hard work that goes into these custom bikes. Displays of bikes for competition were spread throughout the event. The "Michael Jackson" and the "Resurected" custom bikes were among my favorites - two extremes that represent the fun and creativity available to bikers today!

Lyla and Chibs from S.O.A. were right next door to The Carolina Rider Big Ride Bus ... and they had a steady line of fans the whole afternoon. The Big Ride was in the perfect location to enjoy the band Hemme with the hot redhead bolting out some classic rock and even some Pat Benatar. They played several times throughout the day, and could be heard all over the center. Great music to shop, have a cold beer, and visit the mirage of booths.

The Charlotte Roller Derby Girls actually had a roller rink set up and showed off their skills in full competition. It looked painful but gets my respect. They have to be in awesome shape to do this. Greg wondered how the referees stood in the middle turning round and round without getting dizzy? Hmmmmm.

And yes, there was even a section with vintage autos set up, and outside the bike event were additional food vendors that took care of both the Nascar and the Easyriders Fans. Greg and I hung out at Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch and then headed right back to the bike event where there was enough to keep you busy for the entire weekend!

Happy Birthday to Footloose Jon And FancyFree Jan! Two great people who I have enjoyed working with! Looking forward to another Great Year with The Carolina Rider!

I love Lake Lure, but, ....

We have an article today from Bill "Blastoff" Starnes, our NC Legislation reporter that, among other things, discusses the noise ordinance in Lake Lure. Lake Lure is a great place with wonderful country to ride in. The problem as I see it is that their ordnance states that if your pipes are over a certain decibel level they can write you a ticket but it also says that you must have EPA approved mufflers meaning stock. What this really means is that almost anyone they pull over is in violation of the law because most of us have something other than stock pipes on our bikes. I real don't mind if I get pulled for doing something wrong ... it is wrong, however, that just by the virtue of the fact that I'm riding can get me a ticket.

What do you think? If you would like to express your opinion click here: http://www.townoflakelure.com/home_contact_us.html or call the town hall at 828-625-9983.

We had a great time at the Easyrider Show. The Carolina Rider "BIG Ride" was in rare form. Take a look at some of the pictures - including some from Austin Fulghum of SuitCase Photography - plus, you know Stealth will highlight some of the coolest of the cool customs in an upcoming issue or two!

A big THANK YOU to Adam and Holly who volunteered their energies and time helping out at The Big Ride this weekend! You guys are great and we so appreciate all you did and look forward to more fun times together.

Don't forget, The Carolina Rider will be present at the International Motorcycle Show just a month from now at the same spot as this past weekend's show, The Charlotte Convention Center. Make plans to see us there!
