Dreams Realized

I may be tired today, but it's that job-done-well kind of tired.

A labor-intensive Easyriders show is behind us and a full-tilt nose-to-the-grindstone opening year is now underneath us; a sturdy foundation from which our future grows.

So today while I'm regenerating spent energies, I find myself mulling and musing .... thinkin' 'bout dreams and visions and personal paths. For me, this past weekend was awash with inspired personalities and stirring aspirations. Jon and I were humbled again and again by kind words and shared gratitude. Hands were shaken and hugs exchanged. An amazingly affirming experience for those of us devoted to the brilliantly dazzling Ride of Life!

Like a celebrity at an awards show, I will unintentionally omit someone if I start naming those who have and continue to inspire me.... but I am here to tell you, friends and riders, that I am INspired!

The Carolina Rider today has the genuine gift of writers, photographers, and columnists who are sharing GREAT STUFF! We have Sponsors who join with us to create new ventures and mutually build stronger businesses and personal connections. The passion that some of these folks are fueled by is a great turn on to be around. The creative genius infusing the world around me surely encourages my own muse. Many of these folks are entrepreneurs ..... individuals and couples heading out on new independent ventures and taking leaps from comfortable but less-than-inspiring corporate jobs to live their dreams and enjoy the ride.

What a joy to meet and work with you all. Inspiration is a 2-way joy ride, you know ... you say we inspire you? well, you inspire us right back!

Wanna join the creative joy ride that The Carolina Rider is? Contact me and share your stories, articles, photos, videos, and business dreams!

Winner of the Trip to Skyline Village Inn

Congratulations to Rodney Baker who has won 2 nights for 2 at Skyline Village Inn at Milepost 331 on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

It was great to see Mike and Lynn Thrift, Skyline Village Inn owners, who came by our tent during the show on Saturday! They are ready and waiting to welcome you to their little piece of earth and sky! Make your reservations for a cool or warm weather getaway... www.skylinevillageinn.com

So what WAS that Winning Number?

Ok, so the question burning hot for those of you who came by and tried to Crack The Carolina Rider vault this weekend is....what number would have cracked that damn vault?! Much to our dismay, nobody hit it and therefore no rider rode off on the Street Glide parked in our booth. But all of us and all of you want to know how we could have.

Drum roll......you could have cracked the vault if you had entered 957018

Thanks for playing! Thanks for trying! Thanks for stopping by and chatting!

And More Winners!

Congratulations to Winners in Drawings from the Jason E. Taylor tent ....

We are happy to announce for our generous Sponsor, The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor, the following winners from their drawings at Easyriders this weekend:

1st place winner of that awesome Harley Jacket .... Ronald Jacobs of Chester, SC

. 2nd place winner of the Weekend for 2 at Maggie Valley Inn ... John Howard of Salisbury, NC

Speaking of dreams, please support the dream of our Sponsor, Brett Causey. He took a leap of faith in creating his young venture, Hog Haven Motorcycle Camping Gear, and we celebrate with him in the grand opening of his new store this February. Check out the flyer at the top of this e-news and be a part of the dream!

Today we're featuring a little photo journal of scenes from this past weekend. Lots more pics in our GALLERY by Paul and Ricky. Thanks for great photo-takin' fellas!

It's my birthday this week and I'll be celebrating with my oldest and bestest friend, Stephanie, in Wilmington, NC. I hope you have as much fun this week as I plan to!!

Twin Cam Owners!!!!

Now that have your attention ... all you who own a Harley-Davidson twin cam between the years of 1999 and 2006, if your bike is nearing the 30,000 mile mark, it is time to get your cam chain tensioners checked out.

You have two of these half plastic-half metal springs under your cam cover. In most cases, the exhaust will have to be removed as well as the cam cover and cam plate to see the tensioner on the inside. When the tensioners start to come apart, they make a whining noise and the plastic pieces can clog up the oil pump as well as the oil passages if they get that far.

Don't Trash your Motor ! ...

If you have the money, now would be a good time to upgrade the cams to gear drive for improved performance and less worry of being stranded because your tensioners just trashed your motor. If you are on a tight budget like most of us, then replace the tensioners with new ones. Also make sure that the cam bearings are replaced with new ones. At this time, the cams and lift rollers should be checked for wear.

If you are mechanically inclined and have a service manual, the specialty tools, a lift, and the time to tackle this, do so before it leaves you stranded. If not, then please bring it in to Hollywood's Cycles where we have done several of these. If not, bring it to your local reputable bike shop to get checked out before it's too late.

See ya in the wind,

Safety Thoughts

While I like a carefree blast as much as the next fellow, I am a proponent of wisdom as a rider. As an MSF/Rider's Edge instructor you've heard me push getting educated in beginner and experienced riders classes. Below is yet another opportunity to prepare yourself for many possibilities on the road...shared by our local CBA folks:

The ACM classes will be on January 28,29 & 30th. The class on Friday the 28th at 6pm - 10pm will be for renewals.
The 29th & 30th will be the basic & advance classes from 9am - 5pm.

at Charlotte Harley Davidson on Independance

> As of yesterday, 1/23, there were only "5" spaces left open <

If you want to sign up or sign up anyone you know please contact
Janet Bridges at:
704-516-8763 Cell
704-588-2051 Home
There is a 30 per class limit so if you sign up please make sure you attend and don't knock someone
else out of taking the class.
The classes will be at Charlotte Harley Davidson at 9205 Independence Blvd. Charlotte NC.
Please contact Janet for any information that you might need.

In a whole different spirit ... here's one of those blow-your-mind videos recently sent in by reader Jim G who wrote "I felt ill just watching this." Hang on and watch what one crazy so-and-so chooses for his ride.... VIDEO

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable week!

Keep the shiney side up,
