The International Motorcycle Show -

One of The Carolina Rider's Yearly Favorites!

"If you've been to one bike show, you've been to them all," one might say; but that's clearly not true now, is it? There is honestly great diversity out there, and the Progressive International Motorcycle Show is one proof of that!

Progressive? Do I mean "forward-moving" as the word implies? Yes, partly, since the show does truly point to what's new and up-and-coming in the motorcycle biz.

"Love, Love, Love ...

... that's what it's all about - makes ya wanna sing and shout!"

(I don't know where this phrase comes from. It's something my 92 year old Mama says with great glee. If ya know where it comes from, write me!)

Some say Valentine's Day is just a business opportunity for the greeting card companies and florists and, sure, that's true. There's a lot of money made on red and white flowers, froo-froo chocolates, artificially-motivated romantic dinners, and silly treats this week. Nevertheless, whether you have a sweetheart or not and whether you're into the mushy romance of February 14th or not, I wish you some good lovin' on the road up ahead!

(click the above link for some good love from The Rascals!)

And this week, in honor of Valentine's Day, I asked PoniPrincess to write down her own true love story to share. When I say "love story," I don't mean anything like that trying movie from the 70's that required several boxes of Kleenex's to get through. No, this is a fun and beautiful story and I doubt you'll need one tissue unless your allergies are kickin' in!

Read and enjoy ... and note that although leading absolutely separate lives, these two lovers both gravitated toward riding and owning motorcycles which are now a naturally large part of their relationship and which, even more importantly for all of us, led to the PoniPrincess's connection to The Carolina Rider. Thanks so much, Poni, for sharing this truly dear tale of finding LOVE again!

Motorcycle Events Seminar Registration Closed

Wow! We have had an AMAZING response to our offer of a free Motorcycle Events Seminar for not-for-profit organizations and individuals! And so, as of this past Saturday we have closed registrations. Thanks to everyone who has registered and to Cox's H-D in Rock Hill who is providing space to us to make this event possible. For those of you registered, look for another email from me this week with more info. And for those of you who didn't get in on this one - stay tuned because we'll probably offer another in the Fall.

I'm looking forward to another opportunity to see our readers and meet new people at the International Motorcycle Show. Make sure and get your tickets online and use our discount code! And DON'T MISS their truly cool flyer above - one of the coolest images I've seen. Look closely or you might miss something!

May the wind wash away all your cares......

I'm on Facebook ... "friend me!"

I Advocate for Freedom

Freedom, or the loss of it, seems to be an issue we have been dealing with a lot lately. In the last several years we have watched our government at work taking away the rights of citizens. They have been busy at the state and federal level and what's worse, we as free people have encouraged it. Imagine that, free people asking that their freedoms be taken away. You are probably thinking to yourself, "what idiot is supporting the loss of their own individual rights?" Well, you are likely to be one of those people who needs to look in the mirror to find the nearest culprit.

We have many examples; attacks on gun rights, marriage rights & abortion rights are just a few. Wait a minute, some of you are saying, you cannot lump these things together. You say, I support gun rights but not gay marriage or freedom of choice. Or, I support, freedom of choice and marriage but not gun rights. Many of you support some of these rights but not all of these rights and their lies the problem. Our various religious faiths often dictate our political support on issues. For example, a lot of people do not support gay marriage or freedom of choice because of their religious convictions. I have a simple fix for you, continue to believe just as you do and be thankful everyday of your right to the free exercise of religion and let others do the same. If you don't like guns don't buy one. If you don't believe in gay marriage don't marry someone of the same sex. If you don't believe in the freedom of choice with regards to abortion, don't have an abortion. However, if you really appreciate your rights as a free person you should not be so quick to trample the same rights of others. Practice your beliefs and let others exercise their right to practice what they believe.

The idea of protecting the rights of the people, the freedom of the people, is neither a Democratic nor a Republican concept. In fact, both Democrats and Republicans are equally bad by routinely trampling on individual rights. I advocate for FREEDOM, regardless of political party affiliation.

We must all remain free to choose....

Call your legislatures, get involved, fly the Flag and protect your rights!!

Stay Vertical,

Jason

Hello fellow Riders and Harley enthusiasts and welcome to this month's column of Big Mike Buildz!

This time of year we've been putting a lot of our time and attention into building our Easyrider competition Bike. We have many top three finish trophys over the years and this year was our best finish yet. We won the Paul Yaffe Bagger Nation Best of Show award at Charlotte show which got us an invitation to the Columbus, OH National Finals where we placed third in the nation in the Radical Bagger judged class.

Our 2011 Custom Street Glide was a beast. We figured there would be a ton of insane paint at this show (obviously) so we decided to go with one of our notorious flat and gloss paint jobs with traditional Harley colors ... BLACK AND ORANGE! The infamous "Willie G" #1 on the tank was a huge hit and tribute to the legend was well respected amongst the crowd. The thirty inch wheel and raked front end went perfect with a Camtech full body kit and six inch stretched bags that lay back so far they look like they're sweeping the street!

The audio system featured a touch screen navigation unit powered by three Rockford Fosgate amps and Kicker speakers that you can hear from a mile away. We also couldn't let this beast be all show and no go so we built the motor into a Screaming Eagle 110" with some killer cams, big throttle body, adjustable pushrods and CNC ported heads with some big nasty pistons that will hit a lick so the bike sounds as good as it looks! The motor is all blacked out with candy accents and has features like front and rear air ride as well as an switch-operated electric center stand.

The bike is SO insane .... and it sold in a matter of hours ... so, sorry fella's! But, be sure to check us out online at thebikeexchange.net and "like" us on facebook to see what's going on and what's for sale. And, of course, keep your eyes to The Carolina Rider for more of our Buildz in this 2nd week of the month column.

Thanks for reading and with the season approaching, ... everyone BE SAFE!

BIG MIKE
