GREAT GUMBALLS, BATMAN!

"It's like a poker run but different....you get gumballs instead of cards ....and each gumball is then redeemed for a number of tickets ....and the more tickets you get the more chances to win prizes ....so the more stops you go to, the more gumballs you get, ....and the more tickets you end up with, the more chances you have to win!!" Uhh...what'd she say? The instructions for the run might have twisted some brains upside down and sideways as folks came thru registration on Saturday morning ... but by the time they returned with their baggy full of colored balls, the tension had somehow eased. Might've been the sunnier afternoon ride as well as the long stops at the great sponsor stops for stress-relieving brew.

Thanks to all who showed out for the chilly and fun Gumball Rally as part of Carolina MotorMadness on Saturday! See our GALLERY for pics!

While there was a slow trickle of folks hesitant to crawl out of their warm bear dens, by LBO (last bike out) time, a fine crew were on their bikes enjoying the ride and gathering colorful gumballs at stops stretched out over a diverse 85 mile run from Matthews to Charlotte to Rock Hill to Tega Cay and all points in between. If you missed this event, we hope you'll make it one of your must-do's for next year. Just remember, don't be temtped to chew up the many colored gumballs till after they are counted!

The Carolina Rider dot com appreciates the enthusiasm generated by all the stops on this year's run. So, go grab a handful of gumballs for yourself and click through their links to check out the great folks that helped support the Gum Ball Rally and The Tega Cay Lions Club......

Question for this week: What unusual cargo have you carried on your motorcycle? While I have no unusual cargo stories of my own, I can tell you that Jon's bike has hefted plenty.....especially if camping's involved. He doesn't go camping lightly but chooses to take along as many home comforts and conveniences as he can pack on. And that's included a queen size aerobed and tent and sleeping bags and a coffee maker and a heater and a grill and clothes and food and who-knows-what-all! Funny sight he makes but he'll get there somehow. Ok, so for inspiration, here's a picture from a recent story in the LA Times by Robyn Dixon about a Nigerian motorcycle taxi driver!

What unusual cargo have you carried on your motorcycle? WRITE ME!

Lookin' forward to your answers - and pictures, please!

" Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"

READERS RESPOND

Bob Delano wrote following last week's newsletter: The last item in Kibbles & Bits: "BC Bikers: And from across the big pool of water, CBC News reports that the government of British Columbia is making some adjustments to motorcycle laws.." What 'big pool of water' are we talking about? Last night I checked British Columbia was across the border from the states of Washington & Idaho???

Fancy Free responds to Bob's much-appreciated email: Thanks, Bob! Not only did you give us much-needed correction, (we admit we were absolutely geographically misplaced!) but you affirmed that someone out there really reads at least some of our newsletter. We appreciate your input and enjoyed meeting you Saturday at the Gumball Rally too!

Tricia and Mike wrote regarding their Gumball Rally experience: Good morning. We wanted to thank you for a wonderful Saturday riding in the Carolina's. Being new to this area it was great to find all these bike places to go back to and explore. We also met some great people during the ride and the party afterwards and look forward to future riding with them. Keep up the great work with the site and newsletter.  Ride safe and often. LOOSE TALK

Welcome Ricky! We're happy to introduce Ricky Dellinger as a photographer for The Carolina Rider dot com. A great example of how all it takes in life is to step forward and offer yourself up to help, Ricky's positive attitude is what it's all about. Thanks Ricky for being a part of The Carolina Rider dot com!

I was out at Knight's Stadium Saturday enjoying helping with the Gumball Rally. Many of you were across town at the annual tradition of the CBA Swap Meet. Too bad so many events end up being on the same days and we can't all be at all the ones we want to. Good to see everyone who supported the Lion's and the Gumball Rally. Sorry to have missed the rest of you and know I will see you along the road soon. I received the following email from Weave who is a very good friend of The Carolina Rider dot com and whose ride disappeared while he was enjoying the Swap Meet Saturday. Please do help if you can in any way.

Brothers and Friends...

2006 Street Glide taken from about 100 feet from the front entrance (ticket booth) of the CBA Swapmeet parking lot on Saturday, March 27.  It's distinctive with chrome wheels (21" front)  custom front fender, chin spoiler black and chrome Pro Pipe, smoked tail light lenses, black air box cover and blacked out front forks and headlight trim.

Call 704-763-4836 with information.

Thanks.

Respectfully,

Weave
