All Rides are Good Rides ... Some rides are Spectacular Adventures!.... Sometimes when you climb into the saddle, you know exactly where you're headed and you've mapped out any stops you might take along the route to an ultimate destination. But we all know that there are many many rides that appear in your day like a surprise party with unexpected gifts to unwrap mile-by-mile. All rides are good rides but it just may be that the unplanned spontaneous hop-'n-go kind of experiences are most memorable. Planning is needed and helpful, sure; but you know that oh-yeah feeling about heading out and allowing the power underneath and around you to glide you along a path of surprising delights? You see a cool place to grab a meal and find yourself a couple hours later telling stories on a patio with a dozen new friends and the best food you've ever had! You venture into a funky roadside shop and find just the coolest stuff that speaks to your soul. You quinch your thirst at a new bar and hang out all night singing songs with the band and gathering new buds to ride with and begin dreaming about future adventures! THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH OF THE CAROLINA RIDER... The ride that Jon and I embarked on when we launched www.TheCarolinaRider.com last August has been much like a ride that's not fully planned in order to allow freedom of adventure and creative spontaneity. Yes, ok, sure, there was a bit of planning before we threw our leg across the seat and set off on this adventure but mostly, we're creating as we go......in response to YOU and what we see and hear are needs for the riders of The Carolinas. And please, be clear, we're about North and South Carolina - and motorcycles and the people who ride and love them. While we are based in the Charlotte area, our intention is to reach into each and every corner of our home states...both of them! With Charlotte perched at the border of North and South, imagine the roads leading outward from here to the mountains, the coast, to the uppermost North reaches and the lowermost South extents. GET INVOLVED! I say all this to encourage you to remember that even if you don't see us talking about something in your area of North or South Carolina, we are still most sincerely here for you as well. Thanks to all of you who are contacting us from all over both states. Have you noticed?...the BIKE NIGHT LIST below is growing (altho totally unfinished!) And...Hey, you guys up that way and you folks down over there! We're talking to you too....send in your events and stories, your photos and articles. And please let us know what you need and want. Holler if you think you've got something special that we need to come see. Better yet, make pictures or write us about it. We're working hard to cover a wide variety of needs but we turn to you in North and South Carolina to help create more and more. NEW FEATURES A'COMIN.... Here are some upcoming new features for our website and newsletter: Girl Power!- a section for women by women (see more BELOW) The Club Room - a special corner of the newsletter that'll be linked to a more detailed section of the website for riding groups, clubs, and organizations to share their information with their members (announcements and such) as well as with all readers (organization's description/purpose/contact info.) For the Love - space to connect with riding groups and charities focused on ministry and giving. Learn about biker ministries and charitable organizations who are involved with motorcycle events.
WOMEN RIDERS! Time to Show Whatcha Got!.... I have a special request this week to the women riders of the Carolinas. As you may have heard, May is Women Rider Month. And even tho we don't need a special month set aside for us - because we already know we're pretty damn special! - it's still a good motivator for good things! And as it happens, I am happily in the midst of creating more than one good thing celebrating women who ride motorcycles:
So, for our special May newsletter, here's my request to you Carolina women out there who ride ...or want to ride!: Write something!... something real, something fresh, something that's all YOU! Write about your riding experience/s....when you first rode a bike...how you learned....whether you ride your own or ride "on the back,"....what and where you ride and just about anything else ride-related you want to share. AND BE CREATIVE! Write a poem, write a paragraph. Write a story or a list of things you love about riding. You don't have to use full sentences or proper grammer. You can send in photos or words or both. Don't stress about it....just share! Put your pen to the page and see what flows out....or perhaps you'll put your fingers on the keyboard and watch the words that get created on screen....either way, just PLEASE WRITE! You have a story. I have a story and I'll be sharing mine too. And again, I'd love to see that awesome creativity that women are blessed with rather than just words on a page. Express yourself and have fun doing it! Send it to FancyFree QUESTION OF THE WEEK... Question of the week for the week of April 20th, 2010: If you are riding this weekend, where to? An event? Out of town? Just around the corner? READERS RESPOND... To last week's question of the week about where to go for a good time, BooBooSue wrote in that the place to go is Flamingo's at Lake Wateree Wherever you ride this week, do be safe and enjoy your ride! And if you have a little time and space in your life and want to help be co-creator of what we have started here, give us a shout and write, take pictures, tell stories, and share life as one of the many wonderful Carolina Riders out there! "Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"
KIBBLES 'N BITS Quick little Links, Stats, 'n News to chew on....
Sorry to use this sad story from Virginia to prove a point, but "told you so!"...
LOOSE TALK There is Bar & Grill in Rock Hill called the Fast Lane. It is a NASCAR themed restaurant off of Dave Lyle Blvd. A group of riders who are looking for a good place to ride on Thursday nights has decided to start a Thursday night bike night there. It will start on April 29th with girls, music, girls, give-a-ways, girls, bike washes and did I say girls??? So put April 29th on your calendar and come join The Carolina Rider and FancyFree at The Fast Lane for their first ever bike night complete with lots of free stuff. Next week we will have more details. Until then, keep the shiney side up!! Jon "Footloose" Pendleton
