Be in the Know...

Two weeks ago, we were just inches away from launching a new CALENDAR on The Carolina Rider dot com. After events had been carefully, item-by-item, transferred from the existing calendar into the new.... and within a day of sending it all out into cyberworld, we hit a single one button incorrectly and literally lost every single piece of data that had been entered.

Uggh....so close, yet so far. But, as it turns out, it was such a last minute gift. If we had actually turned that calendar free to receive prescious event info, there would have come sometime when someone would have hit that damn button anyway.....and we might have lost way more than we did.

So we gathered our splintered pride and our exhausted worker bodies off the pavement and having learned a really really good lesson, set out to secure the very best of calendar systems. Kinda reminds me of when I first took my bike out by myself just around the block to get used to her. Over and over I'd run up the road to the main road and turn her back around again and again toward home. But then one of those runs I did what I had heard never to do - while rounding a curve, I looked down at the pothole on the side of the road that I wanted to avoid. And what happens when you look at the thing you want to avoid?...you hit it, of course! So, indeed I did. Just really set her down without a scratch for either of us. But learned that lesson good and early in my riding life.

And as for The Carolina Rider Calendar, we've found a strong performer that'll serve us all admirably. So with excitement and lesson-learned confidence, we'll unveil THE PLACE TO GO to BE IN THE KNOW for Carolina motorcycle events sometime this week. I admit, due to our recent mini-crisis, we had a bit of a setback and may be a little behind in filling the dates .... so I come to you to plead your assistance! Please check in later this week and make sure your events are listed...and if not, do the Submit Event thing and let us know what ya think.

READERS RESPOND...
To last week's question of the week, "Where do your read this publication? Are you at work? In the dentist's office? On the john? Outside in the yard? At a coffeehouse? On your home couch?," John B. of Charlotte responded:

I usually read mine after I have caught myself staring into the distance out my office window for too long.  It kind of brings me back to reality after a mental pause for the cause.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK for the week of June 8, 2010...we're helping you think ahead for Father's Day or be ready for the next birthday: What's a good gift for a riding man?

Back to "being in the know".....are you in the know about the bike nite bike giveaways goin' on at Quaker Steak and Lube? Throughout this riding season, QS&L is giving you a chance to register at every single Wednesday night bike night for a chance to win. And it's not just one but two bikes up for winning!

Winning's cool. I'm not one of the ones who usually wins, tho. When I was about 7 years old I (oddly for a kid!) won a set of dishes on a TV call-in program and I think that's about all I've ever had the thrill of winning. I hope you have better luck for the QS&L bikes. And I hope I win the lottery this week!

"Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"

KIBBLES 'N BITS

Quick little Links, Stats, 'n News to chew on....

Some links to help you with your Father's Day thinking....

In Dad's honor/memory, put a rivet on the wall of the Harley-Davidson Museum

Buy your old man a 2010 Brutale (990 or 1090RR) bike and get a trip to Italy....but would you give him the trip or keep it for you?...or would the bike be yours and the trip his?

For a trip a LOT closer to home, if you both have bikes, create a father and child ride into the cool of the NC mountains and stay at The Skyline Village Inn. Mike will take the very best care of you, direct you to some great riding adventures for your time in the hills, and give you a great tour of his wine and gem shops too!

Buy him some art from the Harley-Davidson Museum

You're a procrastinator and you'll wait till June 20th anyway...or you'd rather take him with you to pick his own gift? Well, take him over to Harley-Davidson of Charlotte on Father's Day itself. They'll be open for special store hours 10am-3pm and they'll have in-store Father's Day specials to help your wallet.

Crazy Dad? How 'bout Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town? - some crazy b-horror-movie-spoof we hear that's set to Disney-like music

LOOSE TALK

I know a lot of Carolina Riders... lots of men and women who love motorcycles, many, many people who ride. And there are so many different perspectives on riding: some ride for a hobby, some as their sole means of transportation, some who "play biker" in their off time, some who are dedicated to a riding organization and its fellowship and focus. And, of course, that's not the only reasons all of us ride.

And as I write this, I'm focusing on one group that I applaud for the amount of time they dedicate to their riding life. It's impressive to hear the reports in a HOG meeting, the awards given out for riding miles. While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, for those that it is, HOG membership can be a lifestyle, a sincere commitment to enjoyment of a two-wheeled life on the road.

Well, next week celebrates HOG of North Carolina as the NC HOG Rally decends upon Matthews, NC at Harley-Davidson of Charlotte. It's a huge honor and a really good idea that the rally is being held at this venue. Here're some of the highlights of what's being called "Carolina Screamin'" held June 17 - 19, 2010:

  • There's a NASCAR theme with the primary event being a Private VIP Event at the NASCAR Hall of Fame
  • There will be a 6 acre Vendor Corral, Olympic Bike Field Games, ride and drive along with Buck Baker Racing, discounts at area attractions, women and kids activities, a Town Hall meeting with the Harley Execs., poker runs, Texas Hold'em , walking wine tours, over $10,000 in gifts and prizes
  • The NCDealer Receipt Challenge - during the week of the rally June 12 - 19, buy something from any of the NC Harley Dealers, take all the receipts to the rally and get an entry for each of the receipts for one of 3 - $500 cash prizes

I'll be there guiding the vendor field, meeting and greeting, and generally supporting an important event for Carolina Riders. It's next week. Maybe I'll see you there.

Couple other things....

The Fast Lane bike nite in Rock Hill has run into a snag and it looks like this week will be the last of their bike nites. The good news is that Steve's Bar and Grill on Gold Hill Rd in Fort Mill which has been having a bike nite on the first Sat of the month, (and will continue to do so,) has decided to have an every other Thursday night bike nite as well. In addition to that, Steve's will also be having a bikini contest and a biker leather show coming soon. More details next week.

Until then, keep the shiney side up!!
