Take advantage of your FREEDOMS!

Ron Lofts's column today is a RIDE-INSPIRED creation. He let Bob Seger's song, "Roll me Away," be the foundation for writing about his spur-of-the-moment ride to the beach. As you've noticed from their stories and photos, Marcia and Ron take advantage of their freedoms pretty often. They hop on their bike and "just ride" for a quick breath of beach air, a scrumptious meal, or a visit with friends all around their area of SC ... and they don't let much stand in their way!

Reading Ron and Marcia's stories makes me yearn to "just ride," without agenda, without a schedule, and with great appreciation for being FREE to do so.

Freedom isn't freedom unless it's used and appreciated, now is it?

Unfortunately, our days don't always allow us to "just ride," to take off and kick responsibilities to the curb in pursuit of play and beauty and friendship and fun. Still, as riders, we are all fortunate to have a two-wheeled companion who is always ready to hit the road; who twidles its gears patiently waiting on THAT MOMENT when we decide we can get away and we crank the engine and GO.

Even if it's a quick run around the block, it's freeing to "just ride," and I thank Ron and Marcia and all the storytellers for The Carolina Rider Weekly Magazine as they are all inspirations for taking advantage of our Freedoms.

Happy Independence Day!

(We will not be publishing the Weekly Magazine next week as we take the week to honor Freedom!)

I'm on Facebook ... "friend me!"

EDITOR'S NOTE: When Ron sent in the following, he titled it, "With Apologies to Bob Seger." Well, I ditched that title pretty quick since what he really owes Mr. Seger is gratitude, not apology. Sure, he took the song, "Roll me Away" and rewrote words that expressed his own ride; but he doesn't need to apologize. He should say, "Thanks, Bob, for the song that I hear in my head when I ride. Thanks for writing and recording it, for offering me (and other riders like me,) a soundtrack to the lifestyle I love. Thanks, Mr. Night Moves, for helping me put these ride-inspired words down; words you and I both know other riders can feel." Whatever the case, Ron took a little creative leap and I applaud him loudly and thank the original songwriter too for giving him a springboard. Thanks guys!

A little time off

We're going to take a little time off to celebrate the 4th of July and recharge our batteries. We won't be publishing the magazine next week and hope to be floating in the lake with our toes in the water and a cold one in our hands. Sometime over the weekend when the thunder storms aren't breathing down our necks, we also intend to get out on the bikes and take a stroll somewhere.

Hope you get to do the same ... or something that refreshes you.

I salute everyone who came before me to pave the way for the freedoms I now can so easily take for granted. The kinds of battles you fought are something I can't imagine, have never had to face. The price you paid should not be forgotten. Thank you.
