Summertime's Big Days,

Summertime's Small Days

Recently there's been a commercial for one of those all-inclusive resorts playing on TV. It says something like, "sometimes you don't want to do anything .. and then sometimes you want to do everything!" They highlight the many activities available to you in these adult playgrounds where you can surf and snorkle and drink and eat and swim and sun, sail and jetski and all that you can take 24 hours a day till you drop. Ahh, vacation! Ahh, Summertime!

So far I haven't really had a "Summer vacation" but I have taken advantage of the season's carefree spirit about as much as I can this year. Some of my days this Summer have been BIG days where I've stuffed just about as much fun as I could hold into that 24 hour space. And some of my Summer days are simple small days of quiet and rest. Man I love them both and I truly hope you too are enjoying some playful and peaceful moments too!

Anyway, ... as I'm looking over our EVENT CALENDAR for this month and next, I'm seeing just that kind of seasonal rhythm to it. Some weekends are really really quiet ... not much going on, not too many events listed, not so much to choose from. Then there are weekends chock-full and too full to figure out. Which way do I go? Which one of these events do I participate in?

August 25 is one of those Big Days

One of those days is coming up August 25th. It just seems to be an event magnet! August 25th, 2012 is the date for the annual Red, White, and Brew event and bike giveaway sponsored by Budweiser and H-D of Charlotte in Matthews. It's also the annual charity event for CMOU, this year in Concord, NC. You'll see above a flyer for this year's Toby Keith concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater that includes a ride from 2 dealerships and all sorts of event prizes. That show is on August 25th as well. I see also that 8/25 is the date for the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Caldwell County Benefit Ride in Granite Falls, NC as well as the Cleveland County, NC CBA/ABATE & Cleveland Co Independent Bikers 4th Annual Run against child abuse ... and I am guessing that there are even more things happening on that date that just haven't found their way to our CALENDAR.

So where will you go? Will you do them all? Will you choose just one or two? Will you stay in the a/c & on the couch? Will you take a solo ride just for personal fun? Will you be on your way back from Sturgis??

This came in from Stephanie H. ....

One of my coworkers, Mike Capello, 51, has 4 kinds of cancer and the doctors have given him less than 60 days to live. We are organizing a Poker Run in his honor and we are going to split the proceeds between his family and the American Cancer Society.

The run is going to take place in Charlotte, NC on July 28th. We are going to have an American Red Cross blood drive before the run and provide food for all the participants after the run. We are going to be providing tshirts for all the participants, as well as selling them to non-participants.

To help out or for more info, please contact Stephanie

Welcome Blue Ridge H-D!

Today we welcome Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson as a new Sponsor of The Carolina Rider. The dealership in Hickory has recently undergone a change of ownership and management now with Ron Hall as General Manager. I've enjoyed getting to know Ron and look forward to a great and mutually-beneficial relationship with him, his staff, and the dealership for many miles down the road! Click on their link in the right column and take a ride to the dealership soon. We're currently partnering in the ticket giveaway and ride for the Toby Keith show coming up......

The BIG RIDE will be getting around 8/25

As FancyFree tells you, August 25th is going to be a really full day for The Carolina Rider. First Budweiser and Harley-Davidson of Charlotte will be giving away the Bud bike at the event Red White and Brew. Anytime a bike's being given away is pretty exciting, even for those of us who don't win! After Red, White, and Brew, we are taking THE BIG RIDE bus over to the Toby Keith concert where 4 people from our ride will get to meet Toby Keith. (You can even register to win tickets at the Red White and Brew event as well as ahead of time now at HD of Charlotte, Blue Ridge HD. We'll be giving away tickets as well so stayed tuned into The Carolina Rider for more info about that.) All of this is also the same day as the CMOU fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation which will be held across from the Lowes Motor Speedway from 10am till some time undetermined ... so eat your Wheaties, get some rest and be ready for a full day on August 25th!!

Something Fun

This made its way into my INBOX this past week. I don't know its source, don't know if it's for real, don't know anything at all except that it's pretty fun......and we all can use some fun like the woman on the back here!

I've mentioned this before - even gave you a little peek into one of the shots. Well today's your lucky day. I'm giving you a BIG peek into one page of the 2013 calendar that's in production.
