Word has it ...

I'm keeping my column short this week. I can be a bit wordy at times, I know. My apologies for any overflow but sometimes I have lots to say and the words just get away from me! But this week it's not my words I want to share. This week I have had the pleasure of enjoying some words from three contributing writers to The Carolina Rider and now I get to pass them on to you! The writers are diverse but they all three share a passionate love for their relationships with "The Ride!"

A Woman Rider's Perspective - Sandy's Column

Sandy Reece started writing for us when we sought out a representative from the Motor Maids to share an article to help promote the club's national conference which was just held in The Carolinas. Little did she or we know at that time that she might just be "adopted" into The Carolina Rider family! Since the convention started a new year of leadership, Sandy no longer carries an officer title in the Motor Maids but she's an avid rider and has some inspiring words for us women riders ... as well as for you guys of the opposite gender, no doubt! My appreciation to Sandy for sharing her ride. I know you'll appreciate what she has to share in her column below.

Jane's Sturgis Trip

And you've seen Jane LaVoy at some event here or there. She's either been at The BIG RIDE Bus telling about The Carolina Rider or she's been out in the crowd with her little dog trotting nearby in her "costume of the day!" Jane's known and loves to be known as a "bling queen" and you can't miss her uniquely-bedazzled helmet or personalized TCR bling-bling shirt, so, I'm guessing she turned some heads in South Dakota on her Summer Vacation! In her article today, she shares, "I have never seen sooooo many bikes in my life. It was like the never ending poker run; from town to town, bar to bar, attraction to attraction. There were over half a million bikers for the 2012 Rally. When we first arrived, there were only a handful of tents and trailers but by Friday, you could barely squeeze between a bike or tent. We traveled through over 12 towns, such as Sturgis, Keystone, & Deadwood, putting 3000 miles on each bike!" You'll want to read more and might likely find yourself Googling for accomodations for your own 2013 Sturgis adventure. Read the full story and see some of Jane's photos online now!

Stealth's Ride

Stealth is giving us an extra shot this month. In addition to his monthly Custom Corner, he occasionally throws out another Ride-inspired writing from his life. Today's article will surely get your motor running. I know it did mine. As soon as I finished reading it I checked the weather report for the week to plan my next 2-wheeled escape and I'm hoping that will be tomorrow! Stealth's words, "The sound coming from my pipes was cracking the fresh morning air ... music to my ears! The sun was coming up and the sky was clear, ... I was in the zone, no worries, no planned destination, just riding and enjoying life, the biker life!," are gonna resonate in your own biker body. You know you've felt these same things and can almost taste what he describes. You'll find Stealth's full story online now. Give it a read then get on your bike for a therapeutic ride!

Why Post your Event?

Barry wrote me this week to ask if I'd heard anything about the annual Stanley, NC Masonic Lodge's "Porker Run." He hadn't seen any flyer and couldn't find it on The Carolina Rider CALENDAR. I tried to find some info elsewhere online but my efforts fell short as well. Does anyone else out there know?

I'd like to take this opportunity to strongly encourage everyone who is involved in an event in The Carolinas to please make sure to get it on our EVENTS CALENDAR early and completely. In addition to that, any not-for-profit event can have your flyer posted in Readerville (below) in this weekly e-Magazine that goes out to around 56,000 readers each week. Wow, huh?! I'm guessing you're not touching that many people in your word-of-mouth advertising. And while we do charge for-profits, there is no cost for this service to charitable not-for-profit groups and events. There is, however, a partnership exchange that we request: We ask that you add our logo to your flyers and other marketing/advertising materials (print and online) which shows that we are your marketing partner. We want to be known as a supporter of your caring and fun community efforts!

Thanks for all you do in our Carolina Communities.

Roger C. sent in this flyer and the following info: "We have an event coming up on Aug 25 to raise money for Rolling Thunder's Ride home. This event happens in September where we bring former POW's and their family's to Andersonville GA (The sight of the former POW camp for the Confederate Army) to recognize these men and women for their sacrifices."
