  • are you all a-Twitter?

  • is your Face in the Book?

  • have you got your nose stuck in My Space?

  • or are you an old school cyber-biker?

Ahh, The Internet, the world's ever-widening web of whatever (and whoever!)-you-wanna-know. Can't ya see those invisible cyberthreads connecting every being on the planet? Online connections - electronic friends. And as The Borg told Capt. Piccard of Star Trek's USS Enterprise, "resistance is futile!" So, if you're not in the pool, it's time to dive in with the rest of us. Come on in, guys 'n gals, the water's fine!

And so we have The Carolina Rider; a perpetual online paperless magazine and The Carolina Rider Scene its equally-paperless weekly child. As I've mentioned, it's this month that we sing, Happy Birthday to The Carolina Rider dot com! Venturing into the great online cyber-pool in August Oh-Nine, we tiptoed in, testing the water. A year later and we're splashing about in the deep end and looking for new water toys to play with. And so far, it's true, the water is fine!

Recently we signed up for a Twitter account. If you're a tweety bird yourself, you can find us under the name Carolina_Rider. Not too much tweeting going on yet from our end but we're just getting our sea legs in the Twitter world.

And, yes, we're on Facebook too. Actually have been there for a bit longer although we're still not maximizing its usefulness but we are getting the hang of all these useful tools and look forward to making online contact with you.....when you too decide to take the full social media plunge!

Introducing, Stealth's Custom Corner!

We're excited to bring you a new addition to The Carolina Rider Scene as Mike Pullin aka "Stealth" unveils his corner highlighting custom bikes of The Carolinas. Stealth will handpick unique and eye-popping customs and their riders to showcase each month and there are soon-to-come Stealth's Custom of the Month prizes thanks to one of our Sponsors. Be on the lookout...Stealth just might sneek up on you and your ride! And if he doesn't find you and you think you have something worth showing off, EMAIL STEALTH and convince him to pick your ride. In the meantime, look out below...here's the first installment and I am proud as can be that, at least for this month, girl power rocks!

"Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"

"Green Envy" - The Lean, Mean, Green Machine!

Story by STEALTH ~ Photos by Stealth & Vicki

I was at Mckoy's for a Friday Bike Night (like I usually do on Friday nights,) about a month ago, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted this clean green bike rolling in the parking lot. The bike stood out in a sea of black and your common color bikes.  The bright green bike stood out like a diamond in the night!
In a flash the owner of this bike disappeared before I had a chance to talk to her. That is right - I said HER! I left my card on her bike and she called me the next week and we set up a photo shoot of her and the bike. You can see more pics in our website GALLERY! This is no little girl’s bike. It sports a 106 inch S&S Kendall Johnson built engine along with a Kendall Johnson tranny and a 3" BDL primary belt drive system. The engine sports an S&S E carb along with West Coast Chopper exhaust system. Performance Machine wheels and brakes, front and rear and Metzler tires.  Performance Machine forward controls and hand controls!  This is some serious heavy duty equipment!
Now for the owner, Donna Biggers. She tells me 10 years ago she signed up for a rider safety course and has never looked back. She says 'Once you ride your own bike, being a passenger just doesn't cut it!"   Also said that taking one of these classes is the way to go. What really impressed me about Donna was her knowledge of her bike. Whatever question I threw at her concerning her bike, she had the answer! Whether the question was a tech question or just a general question, she stood tall!

Remember I said this bike really stands out? Well Donna told me that is why she loves her bike so much. She says at any rally or parking lot her bike is easy to find. I asked her about the old tale of green bikes being bad luck and she just laughed and said she never thinks about it and the bike has never gave her any reason to think about green being bad luck!

It was really fun talking to Donna about her bike. I could tell she was really into the bike and riding.  O.k. guys the first bike of the month goes to THE LADIES, time to catch up!
Until next time, RIDE!

From our INBOX: Readers and Writers and Riders too!

Joe Jackson has written for us before. Some of you may remember his "Mom's Ride" article from the former magazine Carolinas Born to Ride. If you're not, check it out now in our stories section. Joe says he's got more in store for us...perhaps even about his upcoming Dragon adventure.

He writes in a recent email: "Planning another Dragon run (Deals Gap, TN.) in the next week or so. It is an awesome ride. 318 curves in 11 miles. And there is a quiet little campground near the end, run by some really great folks. We got in late last year, and they cooked us up some homemade pizza at the little cafe/check-in store. I included a pic from the start." We look forward to hearing more from our friend Joe, the rider-writer!

Jimmy B shares "motorcycle wisdom" from cyberspace ...

"A friend is someone who'll get out of bed at 2 a.m. to drive his pickup to the middle of nowhere to get you when you're broken down"

It's Red White and Brew Time

This weekend The Carolina Rider will join Harley-Davidson of Charlotte for their annual Red White and Brew event - a joint promotion between H-D of Charlotte and Budweiser. I've had the priviledge of being a part of this fun for a couple years and watching as some lucky winner walks - or better yet - rides away on a brand new Harley. It's always a lot of fun to watch those who enter in eager anticipation of the win and then to see some fall one-by-one like pins on a bowling alley in this intense reverse raffle. This year they're giving away a customized 2010 Dyna Wide Glide. The very best part of the full day of fun is the big grin on a winner's face which is so worth the wait! The dealership has been taking registrations for the last 6wks and Sat is the last day you can register. Get in on the fun! The last person standing walks/rides away with new bike!

Fancy Free and I will be there as will be our newest Carolina Rider girls so look for the big black and fuschia tent with CARL on top. Please come by and tell me about yourself and your favorite Carolina rides!

Until next week keep the shiney side up!!
