One of my stepsons is inquisitive.... No, that's putting it way too mildly. He's downright excessive about questioning everything. And, honestly, that's what makes him such a brilliant go-getter. But when he was a kid and living with us and his questions started at sunrise but didn't actually set with the sun at night, his bouncing-off-the-walls energy could wear a person out! So, his father made a new law in the house - Bryan had 10 questions allowed per day. He could ask whatever he wanted whenever he wanted and we'd answer as best we could .... but when he got to 10, he ran out - and we were done. Worked pretty good for us altho the inquisition was NEVER over!

The Carolina Rider gets lots of questions too. Questions about what event is when and where and who is in charge of what rider group and where to buy women's leathers and how to get into a rider ed class and what mechanic is best to use and how to put together a poker run and will we run a flyer for an event and can we come to an event and when will we be in a certain area of The Carolinas and can we help promote a band and what information do we have about a fallen rider's condition and what's the helmet law in anothe state and where are some good motorcycle resorts and can we run more stories about this or that and how do we feel about Lake Lure's stance on loud pipes and will The Big Ride be at the Myrtle Beach rally and why don't we have more Carolina Beauties and what's inside The Big Ride and where's the best place to get a good deal on a bike and on and on....

This week, we received this email:

Enjoy the e-mag. You are doing a great job!
My wife and I are planning a road trip down the coast and along the Outer Banks the 2nd week of September. Any sights, great roads or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dave B

Along with the other 10 or 20 questions that raced thru our Inboxes over the past week, the one above reminded me that we aren't always the best answerers of what folks ask us. You guys are! You are out there. You have the experience. You have the connections. You have opinions and ideas. You know the community, the resources, the events, the ride! We know a lot and have our hands on many many resources, sure .... but I just want you to hear that those of you who subscribe to The Carolina Rider Scene are a wealth of information.

So today I'm turning this question to you. Got any answers to help Dave out with his ride to OB area?

Write me and I'll get your answers to him

(and probably share with everyone next week!)

After the hurricane, we're hoping Dave's trip won't be hindered by anything Irene may have wrought.....

Thanks, Dave, for writing in! And thank you all for your questions. Keep 'em coming and we'll share some every now and then!

Bikers for Bikers Foundation

Bikers for Bikers is a 501(c)3 non-profit that helps injured/sick bikers and needy children acoording to need and fund availability. Anyone can apply - doesn't matter to BFBF where you live, what you ride, whether you're a member of the Foundation or any club but the group does thoroughly examine each individual's situation and verifies needs. Funds are used to help pay bills, buy groceries, and provide other living and medical support needed but no cash is given out directly.

What Bikers for Bikers Foundation can do all depends on how much money they are able to raise and what they have on hand at the time of a request. They raise funds through poker runs and an annual rally in Pittsboro, NC. The Bikers for Bikers Foundation is fully volunteer led and driven.

The foundation was started by Mickey Carter who saved his pocket change for a year as the initial funds to make this all possible! He feels strongly that no fallen biker or needy child should have to do without basic needs and his passion for this cause is the fuel behind this truly selfless grassroots Foundation.

How can you help?

  • Join as a member in support of the work of BFBF & get on their email list for more info

  • Become a state officer (other states needed!)

  • Donate money - remember, the fund started with pocket change so no amount is too little!

  • Participate in one of their fund raising events

Here's their next event coming up.......

Another "Save the Date!"

We've enjoyed being a part of The Ride to Victory for the last several years. It's time to make sure to save the date for this year's event. As we've shared before, these folks know how to create a special event that makes every participant feel special. There's something new every year and this year's plans have a new "mountainy" twist ....

The Victorious Event Goddess, Morgan, sent us the following:

Mark your calendars for the Ride to Victory IX on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2011 and sign up now! See flyer below and application may be downloaded at: Register now to reserve your spot!

The annual Ride to Victory will depart zMAX Dragway at 9:30 AM and lap Lake Lure on our way to the North Carolina mountains for lunch. The package includes a R2V shirt, decals and pin, a 2011 KPCRAA Hero Card and lunch. Cost is $45 per person in advance and $55 per person day of the Ride

Next Monday is Labor Day and we'll be resting from our labors and hope you get a chance to do the same. Perhaps we'll all get a chance to take our beloved bikes out for a stroll through the country (or a blast down the highway, whatever you please!)

The Carolina Rider Scene will come out on Tuesday next week due to the holiday.

"Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"

Rest and Support

The Carolina Rider wishes you all a happy Labor Day weekend. Ride safe, cook out with friends and family, recharge your batteries, and get ready for one of the best rides in the Charlotte area ....

The Charlotte Fire Fighter Poker Run - this year on Sept. 10th - is a run I truly look forward to helping put together. This year it's benefitting the Fire Fighters' Burned Children Fund, Inc and The Forever Blue Foundation. Just to jog your memory, The Thin Blue Line Ride in April benefits The Forever Blue Foundation and benefits slain police officers and their families. This year, The Charlotte Fire Fighters have decided to contribute a portion of their proceeds to Forever Blue and join forces in this coming ride.

Last year we had over 350 bikes. We're hoping to have 500 this year. Please come out and join us and support the people who support you and your families all year long. Mark the date! The Big Ride will be at the starting point, Mad Dog Custom Cycles in Lake Wylie, SC and at the ending point, Harley-Davidson of Charlotte in Matthews, NC.
