"Use your Words, Johnny, ..."

This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Beth McCamey Harris who is helping to put on a ride in Columbia, SC for a cause most near and dear to her. I had been pointed to Beth by Sean at Thunder Tower. Sean wrote, "We are gonna be doing a breast cancer awareness poker run Oct 22 for the YSC (young survivors coalition) and was wondering if you might be interested in interviewing the young lady that has inspired us. She beat breast cancer and has now taken Rider's Edge and is a rider."

As I talked with Beth on the phone, I asked her my usual question - "Would you be interested in writing your own story?" It's what I do. I can write your stories but I'd much rather you use your words and write your own. I function similarly as Editor as I do Gardener. While planting "storebought" flowers and veggies is nice, I'm much more gratified when I can nurture along things that grow native to the soil I'm cultivating. Some folks see weeds. I see plants who are out-of-place or just need to be appreciated for their natural role in the flora of Creation. Furthermore, who am I to toss out natural gifts of Mother Earth?!

Ride your Own? Write your Own!

Same with writing. I want to hear YOUR VOICE as I read .. not mine. If it's your story, we (the readers) should be listening to you tell it; not some regurgitated version of it from someone with a title of professional writer! And so, once again, I invite those of you who are so inclined to write ... and to share what you write with the readers of The Carolina Rider Scene and The Carolina Rider! In order to help you along even further, I'm offering another writers' workshop this year: "Tell Your Story - writing and sharing what matters to you" Check out the flyer below and feel free to write me if you are already ready to tell your story!

As for Beth's story, you can find it online right now. Thanks, Beth, for being courageous enough to write your own ... and ride your own too! That's what it is, you know - like The Cowardly Lion said "C-C-C-COURAGE!" It takes courage to use your words......

Beth McCamey Harris invites you to "Ride Out with The Girls Out" on October 22.

Kickstands up 10:30am at Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson in Columbia, SC

So, I've been calling this section, "Readers Respond".....but in keeping with our quirkyness, today it's become "Readerville" - the space in the weekly mini-mag where we share news, announcements, updates, issues, and emails from you guys!

Autumnal Equinox is Friday

This week brings the official change of seasons ... and the weather this week will certainly help us get used to the idea! The forecast is for very little sun and (hopefully for the collards waiting in my garden,) some rain on several days. Goodbye Summer - Hello Autumn! Enjoy your week!

The Toby Keith Ride

I'm really excited about the upcoming Toby Keith ride that we have put together with Harley-Davidson of Charlotte for Oct. 7th!
Here's the really cool thing: you could be sitting backstage with Toby Keith! How cool is that? Only 100 people have a chance to win a meeting with Toby.

So, here are the details:

H-D of Charlotte is selling Lawn Tickets. You can get them there or you can get them at the box office or through Ticket Master.

After you have your tickets, go to H-D of Charlotte (9205 E. Independence Blvd, Matthews, NC) and sign up for THE RIDE. As of today, there are only 12 people signed up for the ride. Come on folks!

Once we get to Verizion Ammphitheater, everyone on the ride will be directed to the Bike VIP parking. The first 100 to sign up for the ride will get:

  • a special t-shirt (see the shirt design below,)
  • entrance to the VIP lounge and
  • a chance of up-graded tickets plus
  • 2 lucky people will get to meet him

Gonna be a good time for all and a really good time for some!
