In the News ... on the Tube ... online

In 1939...a meeting was held at the USSR Defense Ministry to discuss what motorcycle model was most suitable for the Red Army and after long discussion and debate, the BMW R71 motorcycle was decided to most closely match the Red Army's requirements. (from Ural's website)

Oldies

Think Hogan's Heroes and Colonel Clink. Oh, ok, no, that was Germany. But think that era and you'll be just about in the right mindspace to conjure up Ural bikes....

Ural, the company responsible for old Russian side car motorcycles, is turning 70 years old. Their website has some great historical info and photos (such as these black and whites) that you might want to browse in your spare time....

Newbies

Electric Motorcycle creator, Zero, is pushing its newest version that they say will take you much further than past models. The Zero S is supposed to kick it up to 88mph and get you as far as 100 miles or so without giving out.

Zero's been trying to hit on the right design for some time now in competition with other companies to crank out the best performing electric bike. KTM apparently has one, the Freeride, that's more trail and dirt style that has up till now trumped Zero. Some other manufacturers of electric bikes include Brammo and Native although there are many playing with the greening of two-wheel fun including the big guys I'm sure!

A Letter of Appreciation about the Wheaton Ride/Benefit

Hello everyone, Our scavenger photo hunt and fund raiser for David and Anjanette Wheaton was a grand success raising $8553.71 to date !! This money will no doubt help David and Anjanette while David is on his road to recovery.

We would like to thank all of those who supported this cause with their generosity through participation in the scavenger hunt, direct donations, challenges and donation of our prizes. A special thank you goes out to all who volunteered to work the event as well as to Harley Davidson of Charlotte and Speedway Harley Davidson along with the Pat Rogers Foundation. This could not have happened without the effort of everyone.

If you did not get the chance to participate in the event or make a donation this past weekend, contributions will still be accepted through H-D of Charlotte and the Pat Rogers Foundation for some time to come.

Congratulations to our $200 scavenger hunt winner Willie Caldwell and to Henry Allen who won the Skyline Inn 2 night stay raffle.

Going forward please remember to keep David and Anjanette in your thoughts and prayers.

Again, thank you to everyone, Tonja and Patrick Burch

Got some awesome shots!

Thanks for sending in photos for our upcoming "Wonderful World" slide show. You still have an opportunity to get yours in.

Do YOU have some great photos you've shot along your rides?

Send in your BEST ride photos. We're going to compile a slideshow accompanied by the Louis Armstrong song "What a Wonderful World." Get your photo in The Carolina Rider slideshow! It will be on our website permanently and featured in The Carolina Rider Scene for several weeks.

Here's what we're looking for....

  • beautiful, touching, inspiring, moving, playful, happy, joy-filled scenes
  • shots must have a motorcycle or part of a motorcycle (or more than one motorcycle) in the shot (a photo that shows a rearview mirror for instance counts as a part of the bike)
  • show us YOUR PERSPECTIVE - what you see and love to see on your rides! - express yourself!
  • the more creative and original you are, the better your chance of getting in the slideshow

if you have questions, contact me

Cue the music ... ENJOY!

Not too many weeks left in this year.

May you enjoy what's left of '11 and make plans for some big time fun in 2012!
