Give to others - Get a Discount for yourself

For the fifth time in as many years, Cox's Harley-Davidson in Rock Hill, SC is asking you to participate in their annual food drive, and in exchange they're offering you a 10-20% discount to treat yourself to a gift at the dealership. "Bring in non-perishable food items on December 15th and we'll give a discount on your purchases," shares Rick Caviness, manager at Cox's H-D. "We're a family dealership - family owned and operated - and so it is an opportunity for us to give back to our community and help less fortunate families."

The foods go to Hope Ministries, a food pantry serving the Rock Hill area. "Last year's donations fully filled the bed of a pickup truck and we hope to have more this year," stated Caviness. Here's how you can help make this year even bigger and help nourish the need in the community ....

They're so motivated to help out, this offer is open the full week leading up to December 15th!

The Little Weather Quickie for the Greater Charlotte Area

for Week of December 4-11, 2012

Tuesday 73 am clouds, Wednesday 68 showers, Thursday 51 p-cloudy, Friday 57 cloudy, Saturday 69 cloudy, Sunday 72 p-cloudy, Monday 69 m-cloudy, Tuesday 65 scattered showers (as per on Tuesday 12/04/12)

And so December arrives ...

  • shopping, traffic, and event crazyness has begun
  • 4 days till Hanukkah
  • about 2 1/2 weeks to The Winter Solstice
  • also about 2 1/2 weeks to the end of the Mayan Calendar
  • 3 weeks till Christmas
  • one day short of 4 weeks till New Year's Eve
  • 4 weeks to New Year's Day
  • 7 weeks to Easyriders Show 2013 at The Charlotte Convention Center (same days as my birthday!)
  • 11 weeks until the International Motorcycle Show at The Charlotte Convention Center
  • 13 weeks to Daytona Bike Week (and the early kick off to 2013 riding season!)

In the midst of the beautifully above-average temperatures we're having, it doesn't "feel" like Winter and the time when the man in the red suit is soon to fly his sleigh. Yet, this is the time of year you might consider the tail-end of riding season. Maybe you already "Winterized" your bike. Time for hibernation. Less chances for sun on your shoulders and balmy wind in your hair. The Winter Holidays are upon us and The Carolina Rider Events Calendar is only lightly filled by a few remaining toy rides and a tiny handful of polarbear runs and such chill-focused events.

But looking ahead, it's not all that far down the road that many consider the early kick off to riding season: Daytona Bike Week. And in a mere 7 weeks we get that mid-Winter biker jolt when The Charlotte Convention Center fills with leathers and chrome for the Easyriders Show and then a few weeks later, The International Motorcycle Show.

It might be almost Winter but there's very little "down-time" for committed motorcycle lovers and for The Carolina Rider.

The Carolina Rider had a new crew out this past weekend jockeying hot chocolate and cookies as well as the giveaway for nights at Skyline Village Inn. Thanks so much to Paul and Caroline for a spectacular job as TCR Elves 2012!

Mike and Lynn Thrift, owners of Skyline Village Inn, joined us at The BIG RIDE Bus at both the Gaston County and Charlotte CBA Toy Runs as Santa and Mrs Clause giving out coupons for their inn on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.

Yep, these toy runs are some of the best of the holidays for me!

"Go on now, squeeze out every drop of sweetness on your ride today!"
Fancy Free, Site Editor

I'm on Facebook ... "friend me!"

It's been a great year of sweet rides and this is the last feature for Stealth's Custom Corner this year. With that being said I would like to wish all you who read this and all of the staff at THE CAROLINA RIDER a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Stay tuned ... I already have bikes lined up to start the New Year!

... I first came across this bike at a local bike show this past summer and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to feature her. Easy Mary is sleek and to the point; nothing hanging off, nothing extra, just smooth clean lines. This bike reminds of the bike "Captain America." not red white and blue, but the high sissy bar, the upswept fishtail exhaust, the Ape Hangers.

Easy Mary has that "Outlaw" look and I really dig that look. What caught my eye was the paint job, simple black and white and that is what makes it stand out and pop - the simplicity of the paint scheme. The white scallops rock! Another cool feature of this bike is the front fork brace, that thing is just bitchn'.

Ron tells me about five years ago he had a Heritage Softail and he tells it was a nice bike but all the time he rode it he keep hearing "BORN TO BE WILD" in his head. He had to make a change and he did. Easy Mary started out as a 2005 Softail Standard. There is nothing standard about her these days!

Ron and I hit it off right away. Anyone who knows me, knows that if you start talking Easyrider and Easyriders magazine, fishtail exhaust and Ape Hangers; that you are in for a long conversation. As we were talking I could see the fire in Ron's eyes as we recalled days and bikes gone by. After about an hour of this, Vicki had stood all she could stand and put a halt to it!

Oh, by the way, are you are wondering where the name "EASY MARY" comes from? It's from the movie Easyrider. When Captain America (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) were trippin' in the cemetery, Easy Mary was the girl with Peter Fonda.

I love doing bikes with a story like this one!

Toy Runs

This past weekend was a great one for the two toy runs we attended. First was the Gaston County Toy run - It's been around for 17 years. The weather was over-the-top great. A good guess of how many bikes would be about 2,000. That's a lot of toys!

Second was the Charlotte CBA, Toys For Tots run, a guess would be about 1,500 bikes. Also wonderful weather. All in all it was really good karma for the bikers to show up and give kids all over the area such joy. My hats are off to you, the biking community.

That being said, we have one more to go to. The Carolina Rider BIG RIDE Bus will be set up at The Windjammers MC Ride for Children in Shelby called Ride for the children. It's on Sunday the 16th. I hear this too is a really big ride. As I understand it they have given away over $500,000 since they started this ride. The Carolina Rider will be there giving away a trip to the mountains. See their flyer above, and also take a gander at an article written by Wally Wersching about last year's Windjammers ride. Wally has provided this as a special contributor to The Carolina Rider and you might see more of his writing in TCR along the way.

Come see us, and be sure and say hello....

Lastly, we will be making an announcement very soon about a relationship with a very well know radio station that will be very exciting..... Keep looking for that news!

Have a great week.....

Ride Safe and Keep The Shiny Side Up,
