40th Annual Charlotte CBA Swap Meet coming up

by Poni Princess

Last week FancyFree gave you a heads up on the 40th annual Charlotte CBA Swap Meet coming up. I had a chance to speak with one of the past presidents of the organization, Lloyd Isaac, and he gave me a few more details that I want to share with you this week.

As you know the Charlotte CBA, like all CBA groups, is a legislative organization of bikers whose main focus is to stay aware of the happenings in our government bodies which may affect the rights and freedoms of motorcyclists everywhere to ride as they choose. It also keeps an eye on the insurance commission to make sure they are not taking advantage of bikers whom they deem to be participating in a ‘dangerous sport’.  “What?? Don’t get me started!!”

The upcoming Swap Meet is one of two each year that help to raise money to keep the Charlotte CBA, that’s Concerned Bikers Association, afloat to do their meaningful and necessary work. The gate proceeds are their largest source of fundraising. March 22 and 23rd will mark the 40th year this event has been held. That makes the event older than many of the bikers on the roads! The gates will open to the public on Saturday at 11:00 and Sunday at 10:00. Both days will run until about 6:00 but Lloyd says, “Don’t worry about missing church on Sunday because we have service that morning. Come and worship with us then get all the new parts and new clothes you have been looking at buying all winter.”

There will be three exhibit halls full of motorcycle related items, food, full bar and beer sales, and music at the Metrolina Expo Center located at 7100 Statesville Road. Lloyd says vendors will be accepted until the gates open so if you have that cemetery of bikes parts or clothing laying around, gather them all up in your car and haul them out to this Saturday and Sunday’s event and get rid of them and make some money! Better yet Lloyd says, “Bring your bike on Saturday to enjoy the fun eat some food and hear some great music and do a lot of shopping. Then on Sunday come back with your friends in the car and buy everything you couldn’t take home on the bike.” He did say if you enter your bike in the bike show, which has many categories, you get in the exhibit halls for free. There is a two day event pass you can purchase that will save you some money.

I asked Lloyd what his roll is in the event and he proudly answered, “I’m the MC of activities and conduct the Amateur Wet T-Shirt Contest both days. My entertainment brings them around from 100’s of miles away!” He continued, “We give away cash and consolation prizes.”

Sounds like a day of goofing off with thousands of biker buddies I haven’t met yet. I’ll be there with Frog and Footloose and FancyFree….literally and figuratively! Look for The Carolina Rider crew meandering along the goods and come introduce yourself.
