CBA'S 34th Annual Fall Swap Meet and Bike Show Biker Boys Gone Wild Beauty Pageant! Biker events….. You got yer rallies, you got yer runs. Ya got yer bike nites, you got yer demo days. Ya got yer shows, you got yer races. There are motorcycle events where the bikes, the babes, or the rides take center stage. And then, …..ya got yer Biker Boys Gone Wild Beauty Pageant! Ponderosa on this warm Sunday November 15th evening. The flyers said “standing room only” and that was a modest understatement. All tables, stools, corners, and windows were filled and most of the “family” had arrived early to lubricate the gears of this good time. Your usual smokey beer bar scent and social chit-chattery set the party atmosphere highlighted by kickin’ country tunes. But loose talk and craziness aside, punctuality was honored as the pageant rolled out the first parade of the dozen-ish unshaven contestants right on the 4 o’clock hour. “Beauty” pageant they said? Well, they did say bikers in drag. They did say “no deductions for facial hair, tattoos, piercings, beer bellies, or Harley boots.” And so it was. All manners of female impersonation were represented from one who might have been attempting to do a Cher thing to a Nurse Ratchet to beer-bellied temptresses and thong-bulging Daisy’s! Balloon breasts flailed out of their appointed places, skirts snuck up past modestly-concealed maleness, and their dance moves were some mix of the feminine and the masculine that kept you confused. And, as the flyer promised, it was “the funniest event” and it was “adult” from top to bottom (the guy/gals’ don’t-make-me-look-again-oh-no-he-didn’t bottoms!) This “womanless beauty pageant,” as I’ve seen it promo’d in past years, was a hoot with a caring purpose. The crazy good time at The Ponderosa generated funds for the yearly Seniors Need Santa Too Christmas Party held on November 29th at the Rock Hill National Guard Armory. Besides the cover charge, there were numerous generous donations accepted throughout the evening to augment the proceeds! What a family indeed! The Seniors Need Santa Too Christmas Party is held on November 29th with a 3 mile ride kick start pre-party and a Biker Appreciation post-party Partay. (Did I say that this family likes to party?!) Riders are encouraged to bring a donation gift for senior citizens “like something you would buy a grandparent” such as gloves, scarves, socks, blankets. For more information about any and all of this gregarious group’s activities, contact julesraxter@yahoo.com. Check out pics in our Gallery http://www.thecarolinarider.com/gallery_7/gallery_7.php and see what the bikers “dragged” into The Ponderosa. Get involved in the ride on the 29th. And make sure you show up early next year ready for this family’s version of family fun night! CBA'S 34th Annual Fall Swap Meet and Bike Show Concerned Bikers Association. What’s there to be concerned about? Who’s concerned? Why be concerned anyway?!..... According to the website of the Charlotte Chapter Concerned Bikers Association, “The purpose of CBA was and still is to promote fair motorcycle legislation and to repeal existing unfair legislation.” The CBA was formed in the 70’s as “a motorcycle rights organization” after laws began restricting motorcyclists’ freedoms. The CBA is a voice for riders, a promoter of rider education. CBA is a band of brothers and sisters concerned enough that they take a stand for fellow riders to be safe and fairly considered and represented. www.charlottecba.org explains that since its formation, “CBA has stayed politically active. CBA and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation had worked along with Dr. Al King to establish a Motorcycle Safety Education Program in NC. CBA continues to support the Motorcycle Safety Education Program and encourages you to attend the classes.” The CBA supports itself and our community through a variety of events and activities and this past weekend was a biggie…..the Swap Meet and Bike Show at the fairgrounds! This was The Original Charlotte 34th Annual Fall Swap Meet and Bike Show. 34th! So many things in our lives these days come and go and not too many events have that kind of staying power. The Swap Meet is a Fall tradition. And just like Mama’s pies and who carves the turkey, you don’t mess with traditions….they need to stay mostly the same in order to maintain the magic. And the Swap Meet does not disappoint. It’s pretty much always the same…..same fairgrounds foods, same wet t-shirt contest, same endless rows of used and new bike parts and accessories, same racks and racks of chaps and vests, same atmosphere of black leather fun! There’s something about Autumn that puts one in the spirit of fairs and festivals and a ride with a little crispness in the air. Ahh, the Fall Swap Meet! Check out pictures for the 34th in our Photo Gallery. http://www.thecarolinarider.com/photoGallery.php The next big event for the Charlotte CBA is just around the next curve: December 6th is the CBA’s Toy’s for Tots Ride. And it’ll still be a heart-warming experience for everyone who rides but this tradition will be missing part of its former collaborators. Yeah, tradition and safety got a kick in the gut at last year’s ride when the Sherrif’s office wanted to raise the issue of who could and couldn’t ride. It was all about “colors” and whose colors they would endorse and what colors were anyway. So this year, they’ve declined participation stating they don’t have the finances to provide the safest ride for all involved. OK. So grandmother’s in the hospital and papa just died, we’re still gonna have our holiday dinner! In other words folks, get out and support this longtime holiday ritual. Strap a big brown bear to your sissy bar, put on a Santa hat and wear a big grin. This may be one of the most chilly heart-warmers you’ve ever done. Check out our calendar for more info.
